CWEA 2016 Awards Nominations – Now Open!


Are you proud of your work, your colleagues, your plant, or your team? Make it known and apply for the CWEA/SARBS 2016 Awards!

The CWEA/SARBS 2016 Awards forms are now available online! There are over 20 categories for CWEA/SARBS awards. Each one has been designed to honor exceptional CWEA/SARBS members and California wastewater professionals, facilities and agencies. Nominations for our local SARBS section awards use the state CWEA forms and should be submitted through the online CWEA process before 11:59 pm PST on November 30, 2016.  The SARBS awards nominations will be reviewed and winners announced at our SARBS Awards Banquet. The SARBS awards winners will be automatically submitted to the state level and winners at that level will be announced at the CWEA annual conference. Our local SARBS Awards Chairperson is Rashi Gupta, who can be contacted at if you have questions. Here’s what you need to do:

STEP 1 DOWNLOAD CRITERIA: Download and read the criteria for your award category here.

STEP 2 PREPARE AWARD PACKAGE: Prepare your narrative based on the criteria in STEP 1. Some awards use a nomination form. Save your narrative or nomination form as one PDF. Supporting documents, if applicable must be saved as a separate PDF. Choose one photo to include with your application, this can be a jpeg file of yourself or your team.

 STEP 3 SUBMIT AWARD PACKAGE: Upload your award package (narrative/nomination form; supporting documents (if applicable) and photo) by filling out the award application here.

The aim of this annual competition, now entering its 89th year is to encourage outstanding achievements within the water environment field, improve the professional status of all personnel working in the field, and stimulate public awareness of the importance of wastewater treatment to public health and the water environment.

Winners will be honored at the Annual Conference taking place in Palm Springs on April 25-28, 2017

SARBS PDC – Training Event June 1st, 2016

The SARBS chapter of CWEA is proud to bring you Process & Pumps: From Fundamentals to State-of-the-Practice, presented by local industry experts. They will provide you with the information you need to improve  your knowledge of a variety of processes and pumps – from the basics to current practice, all while earning continuing education credits in a one-day training course. The process topics included in this seminar  range from secondary treatment fundamentals to odor control and anaerobic digestion. Experts will also cover centrifugal pumps, sludge pumping, pump components, and VFDs.

 Vendors will exhibit equipment  between the morning and afternoon sessions, showcasing the latest products available. Engineers, operators and maintenance personnel will benefit from attending this training session and are encouraged to  register early.

SARBS SYP Interview Workshop – April 20th

This event will enable students and young professionals (SYPs) to improve their interview skills through group learning exercises with industry professionals. Mentors from the public and privet sector will provide valuable insight from these segments of the water environment industry. A networking dinner with industry professionals in attendance will follow the interview workshop. Join us for this great event to prepare for that upcoming internship or job interview in your near future!

SARBS Students and Young Professionals Resume Workshop – November 5th

Students and Young Professionals, join us for an evening with industry mentors to polish your resumes!

This event will enable students and young professionals (SYPs) to review their resumes with industry professionals with insight on what makes a resume look professional and stand out.

A networking dinner with industry professionals in attendance will follow the resume workshop. This event is the first in a 3 part series to prepare SYPs for entering the water environment profession. Additional events will include an interview workshop and a career fair in early 2016.

San Diego Section – Sea World Water Treatment Facility Tour – October 23rd!

Join us on a tour of the water treatment facilities at Sea World San Diego!

Date: Friday, October 23, 2015

7 – 8 AM: Continental Breakfast/Networking

8 – 11 AM: Guided Tour of the Sea World Facilities

Representatives with the Water Quality Department of Sea World, will be providing a behind the scenes tour of Sea World. It will cover general park information, a look at their East or West Water Treatment Facility and an up-close look at their filtration process. For those who take the West tour they will visit our Main Plant Intake system, Animal Care Holding facility, and Shamu Close-up. The East tour will visit JTA Commersons Exhibit, Wild Arctic Exhibit, Penguin Encounter and, if time permits, their Main Plant Intake system. The tour will last approximately two hours.
